Dutch buses drive on new alternative technologies

| 14.07.2010

New alternative technologies to replace fossil fuels have been developed in the last few years. As a result, clean vehicles were introduced to improve the environmental performance of the transport sector. Many operators have also started to use cleaner vehicles for public transport services. We can find small-sized electric buses in Rome which are very suitable for the narrow streets of the city centre. The similar situation also happens in the Netherlands. Since last month, travellers in the centre of Rotterdam can enjoy the new electric buses which offer clean and efficient transport. Not only electric buses, but more and more buses running on environmental friendly fuels came into market. One can mention trolleybuses in Arnhem, natural gas buses in Ameland and Haarlem, hybrid buses in Gouda and Leiden, and so forth. Every technology has its advantages and disadvantages. There is no perfect technology yet that can ensure zero emissions, but it is surely a good start towards sustainable mobility!
