Next stage of NMT Bratislava| 08.08.2012 In July 2012 after six months of work, Balancia finished the first of three work packages – analysis and possible solutions – of the non-motorised transport (NMT) study in Bratislava. The project aims to start up a modal shift from car usage to the usage of NMT to reduce the CO2 emissions in Bratislava. During this first work package an analysis of the existing situation regarding the cycling culture -and infrastructure was made to identify the gap between the status quo and the desired future scenario. To be able to realize the desired future scenario, Balancia designed a high quality cycling network consisting of ten corridors, suitable for daily cycling usage: cyclists can travel comfortable and with relatively high speeds on this network, connecting important facilities in the city. Two pilot corridors were selected in this phase, which are located in the centre of Bratislava and form the backbone of the network. From September 2012 onwards, the second work package – pilot projects and action plan – will start. In this phase, the pilot corridors will be analyzed in more detail and an Action Plan for Awareness Raising will be developed in close conjunction with the stakeholders. A work visit to Bratislava is planned in September. More information about the NMT study in Bratislava can be found here, on our reference page. |
