SaferBraIn

Client: European Union

Year: 2009-2012

SaferBraIn stands for Safer Brazil and India. Funded by the European Commission, this project was focussed on increasing the vulnerable users’ road safety. The vulnerable users are defined as cyclists and pedestrians.

Brazil and India were chosen as the countries in which the pilot projects took place. They are representing other Emerging Economies with high numbers of road accidents. These numbers are very high compared to those in European countries. Therefore, the main idea of SaferBraIn project was a knowledge transfer between Europe; and Brazil and India to reduce the number of fatalities in Emerging Economies caused by road accidents. The expected outcome of this project was that the end results can be used as a basis for other researches of road safety in other Emerging Economies.

Balancia was one of the 12 partners, who were involved in the consortium that conducted this project. The partners were coming from Brazil, India, and European countries.

This project consisted of nine work packages. Balancia was the coordinator of Training work package which aimed to give an initial start-up in the training of decision makers, stakeholders, local education institutes and practitioners, in order to spread the technology for follow up road safety improvement projects. Two 3-day trainings, one in Brazil and one in India, were successfully held resulted in positive feedbacks gained from the local participants.
